Raya University Honors Belgian Volunteer Physicians for Their Dedicated Service at Lemlem Karl Hospital

Raya University proudly presented a Rayan Cultural Cloth to the Belgian volunteer physicians in heartfelt recognition of their dedicated service and remarkable humanitarian contributions, particularly in performing goiter surgeries and other critical medical interventions at Lemlem Karl Hospital over the past two weeks. The appreciation event, held on October 23, 2025 at Shewit Hotel, Maichew Town, brought together university officials, medical professionals, and members of the collaborative initiative. The program served as a platform to celebrate the volunteers’ humanitarian efforts and to reaffirm the shared commitment to improving public health in the area.
In his remarks, Prof. Tadesse Dejennie, President of Raya University, expressed his deep appreciation for the Belgian team’s dedication and significant contributions. He emphasized the impact of their work in addressing pressing health challenges, particularly goiter surgery, which has benefited many patients in the local community. He also highlighted the importance of sustaining and expanding such partnerships not only in medical and community engagement activities but also in academic and research endeavors that benefit the community.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Aklil Alemayoh, Medical Director of Lemlem Karl Hospital, having extended his gratitude to the Belgian volunteers for their remarkable service, underscored the urgent need for continued cooperation to help reduce the high number of goiter and other complex surgical cases in the region.
Representing the Belgian volunteer team, Dr. Stijn, thanked RU and Lemlem Karl Hospital for the warm hospitality and recognition. He also expressed his team’s satisfaction with the collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to further continue and strengthening the initiative to alleviate health challenges in the area.
