Personal Profile

Mulugeta Kiros, MSc, is a Senior Lecturer of Medical Microbiology at Raya University in Maichew, Ethiopia, with over nine years of experience in health education, research, and public health. Specializing in microbiology, virology, immunology, and infectious diseases, he integrates translational research and hands-on laboratory training to prepare students for clinical and public health challenges. Mulugeta currently leads the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department (since October 2024), driving curriculum innovation and strategic development, while also serving on Raya University’s Institutional Review Board (since January 2025) to ensure ethical research standards. His academic foundation includes an MSc in Medical Microbiology and a BSc in Medical Laboratory Science, underpinning his commitment to advancing healthcare education in low-resource settings.

An advocate for global health equity, Mulugeta has authored more than a dozen peer-reviewed publications addressing infectious disease management and diagnostics in underserved communities. Beyond academia, he actively contributes to public health infrastructure, having supported Ethiopia’s COVID-19 surveillance systems and community health initiatives. His work emphasizes accessible diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance mitigation, and equitable healthcare access. Collaborating with regional and international institutions, Mulugeta strives to strengthen sub-Saharan Africa’s capacity to respond to emerging infectious threats through research, policy, and cross-sector partnerships.
