About Sibhatu Gebrehiwot
Sibhatu Gebrehiwot, MSc, is an Assistant Professor of Medical Parasitology and Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at Raya University, Ethiopia, with over 14 years of experience in academia, research, and institutional leadership. A dedicated biomedical sciences specialist, he has held progressive roles at Raya University since 2018, including Director of STEM (2013–2016 EC) and Director of Continuous Education, while previously contributing to Samara University as a lecturer. Sibhatu’s academic foundation includes an MSc in Biomedical Science from Addis Ababa University and a BSc from Mekelle University, underpinning his interdisciplinary approach to curriculum development and teaching in medical parasitology, related courses. As Dean, he drives strategic initiatives to enhance academic excellence and healthcare training, supported by professional development in leadership, balanced scorecard frameworks, and higher education pedagogy.
An advocate for translational research, Sibhatu has authored 12+ peer-reviewed publications investigating the antimicrobial, antimalarial, and therapeutic properties of Ethiopian medicinal plants, such as Capparis tomentosa and Carissa spinarum. His work bridges traditional ethnobotanical knowledge with modern biomedical applications, emphasizing solutions for infectious diseases in resource-limited settings. Beyond research, Sibhatu actively engages in community health education, leading awareness campaigns on non-communicable diseases and organizing national conferences to advance science communication. His commitment to strengthening Ethiopia’s healthcare infrastructure is further demonstrated through collaborations on primate biodiversity studies and plant-based therapies, aligning with his vision of equitable, evidence-based healthcare systems rooted in innovation and global partnership.
