Raya University Strengthens Partnership with ILRI for Livestock Development

On November 13, 2025, Raya University (RU) held a handover ceremony at the University’s Senate Hall to receive valuable resources from the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), one of the nation’s leading institutions in livestock research, community engagement, and technology transfer.
The handover ceremony was held between Mehari Haile (PhD), Acting Scientific Director for Research, Community Engagement, and Technology Transfer of RU, and Brhane Gebremariam (Ass. Professor), ILRI’s Focal Person. During the event, Dr. Mehari expressed his appreciation to ILRI for its continued support and dedication, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year to advance collaborative initiatives that deliver tangible societal benefits.
Mr. Debasy Gidey, Director of Community Engagement at RU, praised ILRI’s continued commitment and affirmed the University’s dedication to strengthening their growing partnership to address community challenges through practical, research-driven, and impactful solutions.
According to Brhane Gebremariam (Ass. Professor), ILRI’s Focal Person, the partnership began under the African–Asian Dairy Genetic Gains (AADGG) initiative has now continued through the Sustainable Animal and Aquatic Foods (SAAF) project aiming to enhance livestock productivity and promoting the adoption of modern technologies.
The collaboration prioritizes key areas such as forage development, animal nutrition, genetic improvement, performance recording, and dairy herd health management set to be implemented over the next ten years. In addition to providing essential project resources such as mobile tablets, ear tags, applicators, and cow cards, ILRI has supported RU through co-design workshops, baseline surveys, and Training of Trainers (TOT) programs.
In conclusion, both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to work collaboratively in addressing pressing community challenges and advancing sustainable livestock development.
