‎Raya University Hosts Capacity Building Training on Climate Resilient Vegetable Production Prectices

RU’s Community Engagement Directorate, conducted a vital capacity building training aimed at enhancing sustainable solutions for climate-resilient vegetable production practices on May 17, 2025, at RU’s Smart Room.
‎The training brought together agricultural practitioners and stakeholders to equip them with essential skills and knowledge in modern agronomic practices.
‎The training featured a series of engaging sessions led by experts in the field of agriculture. Each session focused on critical aspects of vegetable production, emphasizing sustainability and resilience in the face of climate change.
‎Mr. Moges Asefa, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resource, presented on Climate-Smart Improved Agronomic Practices. In his presentation, he discussed innovative agronomic practices that can enhance productivity while minimizing environmental impact.
‎Mr. Berhe Hadis, Lecturer in Soil Science at RU, presented the importance of Soil Nutrient Management in Vegetable Production. In his presentation, he emphasized the paramount importance of integrated soil and nutrient management strategies that promote reliable plant growth and sustainable soil practices, crucial for maintaining long-term agricultural productivity.
‎Tesfay Teklehaymanot, lecturer in Agronomy at RU, provided insightful training on Disease and Insect Pest Control in Vegetables. In his presentation, he elucidated the multifaceted vegetable diseases, their symptoms and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and when to apply chemicals if it is inevitable and thereby protecting both crops and the environment.
‎‎Mrs. Asmeret Kidane, RU’s University -Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer Director, presented on the Effects of Climate Change on Vegetable Farming. In her presentation, she underscored the pressing issue of climate change and its adverse impacts on agriculture. She also highlighted adaptive strategies that farmers can use to mitigate the adverse effects of climate variations on vegetable production.
‎In addition to the insightful sessions, the training included a practical visit to the University’s Research and Demonstration Site where trainee’s had the opportunity to observe innovative practices and disease control strategies. This practical experience consolidated the theoretical knowledge gained during the sessions, showcasing real-world applications of sustainable agricultural practices.
